Monday - Friday, June 26-30, 10-6p
Dive into this week long immersion with master goldsmith and stone setter, Jim Dailing. Students will start the week by examining the various aspects and fundamental physical qualities of faceted gemstones and explore a variety of setting styles. Students who have taken Jim's previous workshops or other basic setting classes are encouraged to come back and continue to expand their knowledge into three other setting styles, with three different shapes of stones.
This class will cover:
Tapered tube setting with an oval stone
A fabricated bezel for a marquis stone
Construction of a gallery basket for a stone style of their choice
CZ stones will be included within the kit fee for the tapered tube and marquis bezel section of this course. The gallery basket will be constructed to a stone of each student's choice. Students should bring in stones for the final project of this course. We also encourage you to bring in any 3x5mm oval stones, and 6x3mm marquis stones that you may have in your collection!
Any other stones and/or personal projects that you are currently working on are also encouraged to gain a more rounded experience during class.
Students are required to have basic soldering and fabrication experience as well as knowledge and practice setting basic tubes and bezels.
Students may opt to work in gold alongside the silver provided within this class, if they provide their own and have worked in gold before.
Tuition: $955 + $55 Kit Fee
