Fast Casting on a Budget with Jurgen Maerz

Cast without all the expensive equipment! Learn two exciting hands on casting techniques and discuss two additional methods. Technique #1 is Delft Clay (sand casting technique), an inexpensive and quick alternative to create beautiful pieces by casting them directly into clay. Technique #2 is Cuttlefish, in which you carve a design onto the soft bone leaving an amazing rippled texture on the metal once it is cast into the cuttlebone. These ancient methods are a fun and easy place to start for the beginning jeweler to get the feel of casting. We will discuss (but not work hands on) Steam Casting, employing a wax pattern to create a mold and cast, and High Speed Casting, which uses high speed dental investments without using a flask, a great way to make fine detail in under an hour! Come learn these methods from master caster, Jurgen Maerz, and leave with a much better understanding of the casting process and the knowledge to cast in your home studio. ★ No Experience Necessary!
