"The Full Monty" 8 Week Concentration (Jewelry 101, Jewelry 201, and 4 open studio sessions)
Jewelry 101: Create 7 projects in 8 classes in the studio. You pick days, nights or spread it out over 2 weekends. Design three very important facets of the jewelry world; rings, bracelets and pendants. Practice several fabrication techniques in silver, copper and brass. This course will cover the essentials of fabrication, and get you set up for success in the craft. The techniques covered include:
- Soldering - Flex Shaft Techniques - Filing, Sanding, Finishing - Basic Wire Working - Texturing - Sawing
- Forming techniques for shaping and sizing rings, cuffs and bangles - Bezel and Tab Setting, and more!
Jewelry 201: This is the second half of the Full monty and will get you confident with the torch as well as teach you finer bench skills essential to the craft. Students will cover advanced bezels and mechanisms including designing a ring, pendant, and a hinge. This course will reinforce what you learned in Jewelry 101 and continue to develop your fabrication skills in sterling silver. You will work with surface treatments, popular patinas, and methods to finish your projects to a professional caliber. This course covers the following techniques:
- Bezel Setting Stones with corners - Create a hollow-form ring - Gemstone Setting: Tube setting faceted stones
- Making a hinge and other locking mechanisms to make your jewelry moveable and functional
4 Open Studio Sessions: These 4 hour sessions are designed as self-guided time to practice your craft alongside one of our professional metalsmiths. Work on your projects and custom design ideas and recieve guidance on soldering, setting stones, and troubleshooting challenges. Finish out pieces from the class that need final touches and learn amazing tricks in fabrication, soldering, riveting, finishing techniques and much more.
We understand life is busy, so we work very hard to accommodate all schedules with weekday, weeknight and weekend options. We also offer Private Lessons at a different rate, in case none of the scheduled class dates work for your current schedule.
