Springs can be used to add dramatic movement and satisfying functionality to jewelry and small metalwork of all sorts. In this technical workshop, you will create a variety of spring-based sample mechanisms, ranging from functional catches for jewelry to tiny toys and spring-loaded containers. In the process, you’ll learn about different types of springs, their corresponding functions, and how to incorporate them into your work. Basic metalsmithing skills are necessary for this class – you should be able to saw, file, and solder unassisted.
