“Many natural and found objects can be transformed into metal and jewelry using the traditional lost wax casting method.”
Skill Level: Beginner, all levels welcome
In this 2 day workshop students bring in a variety of found objects that interest them and then learn the basics of casting which includes preparing the object to cast, burnout in the kilns, “slinging” molten metal and finishing and polishing the piece.
Learn how to properly strengthen and seal found objects like flowers, leaves, insects, fresh green wood, and more. Then cast the objects into bronze or silver and learn how to clean and polish your cast. Create amazing jewelry that incorporates natural and everyday objects.
Some great objects to bring are: thick veined flowers or leaves, green (fresh) twigs, stems, small plastic toys or figures. All objects should be no larger than 2″x2″, and measure at least 2mm thick to ensure casting success.
Choose between sterling silver, Argentium, or bronze casting grain. Casting grain is not included in tuition. This cost is determined by weight, after the piece(s) have been cast. Students will pay for casting grain at the end of class on Sunday which usually starts at $15.
