Jewelry 201: Intermediate Projects - Mornings with Shalena White
Tuesdays + Thursdays, July 11 - August 3, 10-2p
Spend 4 weeks advancing and refining your jewelry techniques! This course will reinforce what you've learned in Jewelry 101 and continue to develop your fabrication skills in sterling silver. You will work with surface treatments, popular patinas, and methods to finish your projects to a professional caliber. This class will take your soldering skills to the next level focusing on work that has multiple solder seems and soldering small objects to large ones.
Week 1 (Day 1 & 2): Set an irregular shaped cabochon in a hand made bezel from sterling sheet. Students may make either a ring or a pendant focusing on a stone that has corners.
Day 3-5: Create a hollow form ring out of sterling sheet. Spend day 3-4 soldering and fabricating your ring, with day 5 focusing on clean up and setting a faceted 2-4mm stone into a tube setting.
Day 6-8: The Hinge - Day 6 will focus on doing a practice run of constructing a simple hinge and starting individual projects. Then spend day 7-8 incorporating all of the techniques you've learned into a piece that has the ability to move or open. Locking mechanisms, doming and shifting when soldering will all be demoed during this project.
